Pandit Mani Prasad is one of the exponents of Hindustani Classical Music. He represents well known Kirana Gharana and is one of the most eminent vocalists of this Gharana.
Pandit Mani Prasad has invented new Ragas and given new dimensions to several existing Ragas. He has composed Bandishes in the name of Dhyan Rang Piya.
Pandit Mani Prasad started his Sangeet Sadhna right form the childhood and received training in Hindustani Classical music from his father Pandit Sukhdev Prasad and Grandfather Pandit Shakti Lal who were noted for their purity in classical music. He was later guided by his uncle Pandit Shankar Lal and Pandit Gopal Prasad. In fact Pandit Mani Prasad Was brought up in an atmosphere of music Hindustani classical music.
Pandit Mani Prasad is now well known for his Khyal Gayeki among those who have interest in Hindustani classical music. This top graded artist has given performances at several Radio Sangeet Sammelans and also AIR’s National programmes of besides Doordarshan and other TV networks programmes. He has been highly appreciated by the music lovers all over the globe.
He has traveled widely and his performance in Europe, Africa, USSR, USA Canada and Arabian countried highly impressed the audience there and he won laurels. Appreciating his performance in London on the occasion of 5th Festival of Arts of India., the High Commissioner of India to UK remarked, “Your performance helped understanding of india’s cultural heritage”. Similar was the appreciation received from the Indian High Commissioner in Kenya
Pandit Mani Prasad was honored by many awards. Amongst them is Raseshwar Award given by Sur Singer Samsad of Mumbai, Swarmani Award of 1980 at New Delhi. Rajathan Sangeet Natak Academy of Rajasthan.
Pandit Mani Prasad does not want to confine his knowledge about the Hindustani classical music to himself bus has always tried to spread it among others.
He has sustained the Guru Shishya Parampara. Persons like Rita Ganguly, Ramesh Jule, Savita Maharaj, Shika Ganguly, Seema Anil Sehgal, Chandan Das, Gayatri Kaul, Uma Garg, Darashi Dewan, Maharaj Verma, Surinder Kaur, Pamela Singh, Ravi Jule, Sant Satnam Singh, BHupender Singh, Ranjana Narain, Sucheta Bhattacharya, Om Prakash Nirwan, Nirmala Gopi Krishna etc. are few of his disciples besides two of his sons Deepak Kumar and Lalit Kumar.
Amongst the music cassettes released so far, three of his cassettes released by CBS (Swar Shree), Midas and Swaranajali are most popular and very circulated. A few of his rendering are circulated around the world through CDs released in Canada. His Video release are also popular.
